"Well, what if a woman wrote the song?"
From this simple question, soprano Golda Schultz and pianist Jonathan Ware researched and curated a program made up entirely of women composers including Clara Schumann, Rebecca Clarke, and Nadia Boulanger. That push for a more inclusive narrative in the art song literature led them to commission a new cycle by composer Kathleen Tagg and librettist Lila Palmer titled "This be her verse." The result is a stunning program that begs a new question: what is the music like when women tell their own stories?
This performance will be available for streaming beginning September 17 through September 28. Tickets are being offered at a pay-what-you-can rate at www.vocalartsdc.org/golda
